1999 Rocketdyne Softball Rules (Excerpts)         

 

1. No metal cleats.

2. No lead-off base until ball crosses home plate. Ball is dead when it hits the ground unless it is hit (batted).

3. No bunting.

4. No hardball bats.

5. No stealing bases unless the defense attempts a pickoff (throw).

6. Unlimited substitutions are permitted.

7. Sliding is permitted.

8. Batting order: The starting batting order must be followed, but defensive changes may be made at any time. Players arriving after the first pitch of the game may be added to the end of the batting order immediately upon arrival or may be used as a substitute. A team will have the option of batting their entire or partial roster. Any batter failing to bat for any reason, regardless of the number of batters in the batting order, will be automatically out if no legal sub is available the first time a better fails to bat. This space shall be skipped for the remainder of the game with no further penalty. Players that fail to bat shall not participate any further in the game.

9. Legal Game: Minimum of 8 players, maximum of 10 on the field. All games must start if the minimum is present. All players must be on the official roster which is filed at the Recreation Center, prior to the start of the game.

11. Eligibility: Must be a spouse or an employee of Boeing, Air Force, NASA or ARA- and participating in no more than one company sponsored softball team. Ineligible players result in team forfeits retroactive to include all games played with the individual in question. Individuals may play on only one company sponsored team.

13. Length of Game: A regulation game consists of seven innings or a time limit of no new inning starting after 1 hour and 10 minutes. An inning in progress that has legally started shall be finished.

14. End of Regulation Play: Games ended in a tie at regulation will remain as a tie and will be officially recorded as such.

15. Umpire: If an umpire fails to show up for a game, the game will be cancelled. The game will be rescheduled at the end of the season if it makes a difference in the final standings.

16. Legal Pitch: Maximum height unlimited, minimum height batters head. Note: After 2nd strike, the batter is out after 2nd foul.

17. League Champion: Will be determined by the team with the best win- loss percentage in their respective league. If a tie for first place in a league results, co-champions will be named.

18. Forfeits: a forfeit will occur 10 minutes after scheduled start time if minimum number of players cannot be fielded (refer to Rule #9). Umpires watch is official time. If the game starts late, the official time at the conclusion still remains the same.

20. Pitching: At the beginning of each inning or when a pitcher relieves another, no more than three balls may be delivered to the catcher or other teammates.

22. Balls: Balls will be provided by the home team at each game (first team listed on schedule). Visiting team provides backup ball (used ball). After the game it is the responsibility of the home team to take the used ball for their own future use.

23. It is the obligation of both base runners and fielders to avoid collision. A runner will be called out if he/she fails to get out of the way of the fielder making the play (judgement call).
