My 2000 Summer vacation:
I spent a week in September riding Cycle Oregon. Visit their web site for maps and general info. In summary, I cycled over 450 miles in 7 days, going through the following cities: Paisley, Silver Lake, La Pine, Bend, Antelope, Dufur, and finishing in Hood River. At the first day registration they even gave us license plates for our bikes.
I traveled with my good friend John, who lives in Portland. Here is a photo of us during a lunch break on the 2nd day. We were near Fort Rock, a volcanic formation nearly 300 feet tall (although you can't really tell in my photo because we were about half-a-mile away). John got some rest during the lunch break.
I met a terrific woman from Florida during the ride. Barb and I rode at a similar pace, and spent a good chunk of time together. We stopped at the Deschutes river one day near Bend. I also got a nice photo of Mt. Bachelor on the way into Bend. There were about 2000 people on the ride, so there were tents as far as the eye could see each evening when we got settled. Getting some shade was a coup.
Believe it or not, there was even a guy who pedalled a rickshaw from town to town! It was hard enough for me on my road bike (about 20 pounds), but his bike must have weighed about 60! This picture of Barb and her friend Scott was taken at a rest stop one day when we had to ride over 100 miles (from Bend to Antelope). Jean Paul (the rickshaw rider in red polka dots) deserved a break!
There is still some film in my camera, so I'll update this page eventually...
