Sierra To The Sea
is organized by the Almaden Cycle Touring Club. The route typically stops at the following
eight California cities: Columbia, Jackson, Folsom, Winters, Calistoga, Duncan Mills, Olema,
and San Francisco
(you can know more about these places by following the link to STTS
above). Most days of riding include one
long and one short option (I selected a mix over the days, depending on how I was
feeling). Although I’ve been around Columbia before, I don’t think I’d ever actually
been there. On the first day of riding, a group of us had our picture taken over the
Stanislaus river. We also had a nice rest stop later that day. On the second day, I got to take a short dip
in the El Dorado river! The third day, I covered the most mileage,
starting along the American River bike trail,
through Old Sacramento, through Davis (I broke a
spoke just outside of Davis, and had to return to the city for a quick repair),
and finally to Lake Solano campground, where they had peacocks! I took the long option the next day, and had
a great ride up Ink Grade hill, and lazed around the rest stop! The next day we passed through the Wine country, and camped near the
Russian River. I didn’t get any
pictures on the 2nd-to-last day because my battery ran out of
charge, but on the last day, we approached San Francisco
on a typically foggy day, and triumphantly crossed the Golden
Gate bridge, winding up in Golden Gate park,
where we packed up, and returned home. And, of course, there was the obligatory license plate!
