Projects

Re-upholstery Work

Elmer Gravdahl was an accomplished re-upholstery craftsman. His apprenticeship started in 1959. By 1965 he was quite good at the trade. He worked with cloth, leather, and vinyl. He made new furniture and used, worn out furniture into new furniture that looked and felt better than the day it was originally manufactured.

Fishing

In his younger days, Elmer Gravdahl was quite a fisherman. He liked to fish for Walleye Pike, a fresh water sports fish that is considered a premium eating fish in the Midwest.

Elmer never bothered to do any deep water fishing...which is not surprising considering the nearest deep water was several thousand miles away. His favorite bate was angle worms which he dug out of Clarice's (his wife's) garden.

He wore out his rod and reel each year. Every spring he picked up a new one at the store next to his work. No doubt, we looked over all the inventory many days in advance in anticipation of getting his next rig.

Pheasant Hunting

Another one of Elmer's pastimes was Pheasant Hunting which he indulged in every fall in his earlier years.

Dinner (or Pheasant for non-hunters [g])

Reading

Will Rodgers never met a man he didn't like. Elmer never found a publication he didn't like. If it had print he read it. He enjoyed reading beside Clarice each night before dinner, after dinner, before bedtime, and oftentimes he read himself to sleep.

Hot List

Six months before Elmer passed away his son, Don in California sent him his first personal computer. It was a 486 compatible system with a modem. Elmer signed with a local Internet provider and got online within a few weeks. Even though he was real sick with his heart condition that eventually took him, he spent up to three hours a day surfing the World Wide Web. No doubt, he was READING...which was his passion. He visited the Pyramids in Egypt, the White House, National News and Magazines, and so on. Here are some of Elmer's favorite links from his bookmark file:
