I have worked in the field of alcohol & drug abuse since 1981.
A degree in psychology with my focus on substance abuse leads to many other related
areas including problems in the family of the person who is addicted.
This is both a frustrating field to work in and very rewarding. It is aptly called the disease of denial. Still, when people stop using & recover it is a wonderful thing to be part of.
Drug abuse is a problem because it does what the user wants it to do, reliably and consistently on time.
Until the day that tolerance changes into intolerance and the destructive nature of the
drug is now showing it's true self.
Drugs are sometimes called the "magic eraser". In the beginning it erases negative
feelings and dulls the pain of life for the person using it.
Later it erases families, jobs and much more. Death or insanity becomes the bottom line.
Perhaps the most important part of this web site is the alcohol test and scoring key.
It will give a person an accurate appraisal of his/her condition IF they are still able to be
honest.
The one thing that is most important in making life good is ATTITUDE. If your attitude
is bad it is reasonable to expect that you experience life as being bad and the world you live in is less than what it takes for you to feel happy much of the time.
