Have I got your attention?  Read on...

If you have been using e-mail for any length of time at all, I'm sure you have received floods of "email virus" warnings that all claim to do despicable things to your hard drives.  Well, I ran across a virus that could prove to be somewhat useful to send to some of your more "special" friends.  Click Here to view the virus information.

After a while, you will notice that most of the virus warnings (most of which are actually hoaxes!) contain the same or similar warnings and verbiage.  That should be your clue that you are not actually dealing with a real virus.

Important Note:  Keep in mind that occasionally you will receive an e-mail that contains information on a very real virusReal, actual viruses should be taken very seriously!  Do some research and find out if you are dealing with a real virus or just a hoax!  Clicking on the graphic below will take you to a list of Known Virus Hoaxes.  From there you can also view other information, including an alphabetical listing of thousands of actual computer viruses.

Known Virus Hoaxes

The Virus Hoax's Purpose:  A large number of e-mail Virus Warnings (referring to virus hoaxes) are designed to do three very important things!  They panic the new computer user, they recommend sending the virus warning to everyone in your Address Book, and by doing so, the writer of the hoax effectively ties up valuable Internet resources!  Ever wonder why your Internet connection slows down during peak time periods?  Folks who don't know any better are frantically forwarding virus hoax information to everyone they know!

To sum it up...  Remember to stay informed and be sure to run a reputable virus scanner when surfing the net or borrowing software from others!  Please be sure to check back often to keep yourself up-to-date on all of the current e-mail virus hoaxes.

Below is a sample of a Virus Hoax:

If you receive an e-mail entitled, "How to Give a Cat a Colonic," DO NOT open it. It will erase everything on your hard drive. Forward this letter out to as many people as you can. This is a new, very malicious virus and not many people know about it. This information was announced by IBM.

Please share it with everyone that might access the Internet. Once again, pass this along to EVERYONE in your address book so that this may be stopped. AOL has said that this is a very dangerous virus and that there is NO remedy for it at this time.

The next time you receive an e-mail warning you of a dangerous virus and impending disaster, browse to this page and click here or on the above graphic.  Check the hoax list to find out if the virus warning is for real or not!
