OVER THE HILL GANG CAR CLUB

This club was founded after a run to Lodi, CA in June of 1973. Tom Sterkel, a local Auto Upholsterer and fellow Street Rodder Craig Lake, from San Diego, actually came up with the name and started the club. Tom started the San Bernardino Chapter, while Craig started the Chapter in San Diego. The name was taken from an early 1969 TV movie by the same name.

The name was originally meant to fit the cars and the loose association this club is known for, the name would eventually say as much about its members, as its members cars.

The first six members of the club were:

Tom Sterkel (34 Ford Pickup)

Chuck Grand (46 Ford 2dr Sedan

Steve Fairbanks (39 Chevy 2dr Sedan)

Jack Cox (32 Ford 2dr Sedan)

Rich Bagwell (30 Ford 2dr Sedan)

Dick Patterson (28 Ford 2dr Sedan)

Tom Sterkel passed away in 1985, he had logged well over 100,000 miles on his Street Rod. He felt there was a place for a club that could meet the following needs:

The Over the Hill Gang -- A club with very few rules.

The only current rules are:

  1. Prospective members must attend at least two club meetings.
  2. Must have a running pre-1948 car at the time of admission to the club.
  3. Must go on at least one run with the club
