Backpacking 2002

Jim & Matt made a loop trip from Twin Lakes into the high country of the Eastern Sierras.  Out for six days and five nights.  The trip was magnificent, taking them through fairly remote country and up to 12,000 ft.  Very dramatic country...  see the images through the link below.  Jim planned throughout the summer to reduce the pack weight and go "ultralight", by upgrading certain equipment and by carefully planning exactly what was needed (and no more).  The effort was successful; the packs weighed about 35 lbs (with water), as compared to packs that were 65 lbs. + in prior years.  We had less equipment & food, but much more enjoyable hiking.
