Jim's Prius
2001 Prius, purchased November 2000
As a hybrid electric/gas car, the Prius starts acceleration under electric power, then the gas engine starts working in conjunction with the electric motor (seamlessly integrated by computer). I drive the car 85 - 100 miles per day in lots of traffic. The thing that I enjoy most about this car is that it is very calm in traffic. When you stop, the engine turns off completely (totally quiet). When I am in stop & go traffic, it sometimes creeps along under electric power alone, using the gas engine only to accelerate or to achieve higher speeds. I can cruise around the neighborhood on electric if I am light on the gas pedal & I'm the only one in the car. Lots of other "green" features. 45+ MPG on regular (actual from tank-to-tank). The unique "constantly-variable transmission and bladder gas tank are also revolutionary technology. I wish that it wasn't such a small car, but other than the size it's wonderful.
