Snowshoeing.
Beginning winter 2000, we started making annual winter trips to Rock Creek. Located about 40 miles north of Bishop, in the Eastern Sierras, the trip starts by driving to a snow parking area, where all equipment is loaded into snowmobiles and taken in the final two miles to the Lodge (no auto access). Rock Creek Lodge is primarily for cross-country skiers, however, we really enjoy snowshoeing. Each day, we pack a lunch and take off for a fun hike up into the snow. The country is pristine, beautiful and cold. At the end of the day, we return for a hot sauna in the "Finnish sauna", which is heated by wood fire, and then are served a great meal. After dinner we usually watch classic movies in the lodge. All of the heat in the lodge and the cabins is by wood fire, so it's pretty cold in the mornings until we heat the cabin. A real escape....
