Who says crafting women can't have fun away from home? All we needed was Judith and Elton John! In February 2004, the poor unsuspecting city of Las Vegas, Nevada, was descended upon by none other than the Eltie Lama, Judith Whitaker, and (how many, exactly?) about 14 of her friends to see Elton John play at Caesars Palace. I was only out there two days, but some of the other gals were there all week.
Here are some pics of us having dinner at the Blue Iguana in Circus Circus on Monday night.
This is Darla and Judith. Judith is reading her Eltie Lama declaration from Brenda.
Here is Adrienne signing someone's Eltie journal. Man, look at the size of that margarita glass!
and this is Betsy!
This is Dave the Brave (Darla's hubby). I think he was loving being the only man in the group! That's Holly in the background.
One of the highlights of the trip was hanging out outside the Elton John Store waiting for him to arrive for a visit to the store. Unfortunately, Security pretty much just him rushed in and him rushed out, so he had no chance to mingle with the fans.
Here we have Donna's mom and her friend Sally in the front of the (closed) store. I think the folks inside the store got as big a kick out of staring at us as we did staring at them!
Here's Elton inside the store. I didn't get a lot of good pictures, mainly because of the combination of casino lighting plus glass windows. Most of the pictures came out hopelessly blurry. Luckily, this one turned out so you can see Elton's face.
Elton's show poster.
Me with Elton's show poster.
Pictures that I didn't get to take (but wish I did) included dinner at Spago on Tuesday night. It would have been fun to get pics of some of us playing machines, but photography in the casinos is prohibited (plus I don't think I could have stayed up that late! LOL). No pics of the show, either because they asked that you check in your camera if you had one with you.
One thing I did on Tuesday morning was visit the Chinese New Year display in the Conservatory of the Bellagio Hotel. It was really neat! The flowered kids looked like something that should be on a Rose Parade float.
One of my favorite things in the Bellagio has always been this handblown glass ceiling decoration. Each piece of glass is individually hand crafted. You really need to see it in person to really appreciate the beauty of it.
