State of Sunshine 2003

State of Sunshine 2003

Hi everybody!

Wow, can you believe 2003 is almost over? Seems like it hardly got started! It's been a pretty good year, all told, and pretty busy. There was always some place to go, and stuff to do! But, I had fun doing it all, too.

I'm still at JPL (17 years now!), and still working on the Cassini Program. Cassini is working just fine, and will arrive (finally!) at Saturn on July 1, 2004. Seven months after that, we'll drop the Huygens Probe to the surface of Saturn's moon, Titan. I was able to attend our Project Science Group meeting in Venice, Italy in May. Venice is a fascinating place to visit, and an, er... interesting... place to hold a meeting. Not many 200-year-old buildings have internet connectivity! The the Bruisers softball team played again this year, and we had a great time. On Sundays, you can still find me taking care of the little bitty kids in the Toddlers Sunday School department.

Mom and Dad are still healthy and doing great. Both of them still serve faithfully in church; Dad as head of the Ushers and as a Deacon, and doing a lot of hospital and convalescent home visitations and work with our elderly. Mom is still the director of our church Bookstore. They went on several vacations this year, including a Mexican Riviera cruise in January, a Canyon Lands tour in April, San Diego in July, and a New England Cruise in October. Right after Christmas, they'll be headed out on an Australia/New Zealand cruise.

Kevin and Susie took a French Riviera trip during the summer, and also bought a second home in Laguna Beach to be close to Kevin's work in Irvine during the week. They both still serve in church, Kevin as an usher and as the Superintendent of the College Sunday School department, and Susie as a teacher in the Primary-aged children's department.

So what else did I do this year (besides hitting one of those "milestone" birthdays in April)? There were the usual Jazzercise classes, softball games and Dodger games, of course... trips included: Phoenix, AZ in March for Spring Training baseball and the air show at Luke AFB, the trip to Venice, Italy in May, a few weekends in Vegas with Scott for various reasons, and a 10-day Southern Caribbean cruise in November. All in all, things have been good -- healthy and happy with a secure job and my family likewise.
