Ballots
have been issued for the 2013 NABET-CWA Local 53 Officers’ Elections.
As
you are aware of by now, I am running for the office of Local 53 Vice
President. My desire to run for office this year is somewhat less desirable
because I had to choose to run against a good friend. Joe Ayala has been a
great supporter of mine, and deciding to run with him, not against him, was a
tough choice. One of us has to win, and if it should be me, it will be with a
heavy heart. I like Steve and Joe a lot. They have been working to do the right
thing.
So,
you might ask, why would I run against either of them? Well, I for some reason
enjoy battling the companies on behalf of the Union members, and I feel my
thoughts on the things that we need to do to make our Union stronger can be
best put forth as an officer of the Union. Plain and simple.
Every
time I serve an elected office, the people I represent benefit. My unit at
KMEX, has survived some nasty attacks, and in now poised to move forward yet
again on achieving a forward looking contract that is beneficial to our unit
and the Local. We are still benefitting from the strength of our bargaining
unit which reached new levels in 2000. Since then, I have served various roles
in higher offices, that have benefitted other units in
the Local, the Region, and the Sector. I am also currently serving you as
Region 5 Vice President, and do all that I can to influence the Sector to make
the right decisions for our members. Many times, we benefit from the extra push
I bring to the table.
As
your new Local 53 VP, I will bring my experience to all units in the Local. I
am fully capable of stepping in and representing our Local President with no
loss of confidence or ability to handle any Local matter. My advice to the
President will always take into account what is best for as many members as
possible.
As usual,
thank you for all that you do. If you can each get a friend to vote for me, we
should be able to succeed in this election. We need every vote we can get.
Thanks
much.
