Reverse Osmosis

For years we have been faithfully trying to educate our customers to the fact that there is no scientific evidence that gadgets and filters do anything to the chemistry of the water.  (Read gadgets) The only way to actually change the chemistry of the water is to add to or take away from the water's make-up. the water you drink and use for a number of other uses is not just H2O.  There are many naturally occurring contaminants that reside in it. (see Impurities)

WaterTreatment.net has hesitated getting into the residential and office markets because the only affordable "systems" were nothing more that gadgets and gizmos that had no scientific evidence to support their claims.  The technology of reverse osmosis has come along way since we entered the water treatment industry in 1989.  We have used this technology  on large scales but the cost has been prohibitive for the smaller end users. However, now you can have safe drinking water at affordable rates.

So,  What is Reverse Osmosis anyway?

In college my biology professors would describe osmosis as the" diffusion of water across a differentially permeable membrane." Absent of other forces the movement will be from an area of lesser concentration of salts to one of greater concentration of salts. This mechanism is essential for life to exist. it keeps the salts (nutrients) inside the living cell while allowing replenishment and pressure build-up for other life important mechanisms to function.

Your stomach is a differentially permeable membrane.  That is why drinking too much sea water will harm you physically.  Osmotic pressure begins drawing water out of your body to try to dilute the salt in your stomach. As you know dehydration will lead to death of living material.

In reverse osmosis, the idea is to use the membrane to act like an extremely fine filter to create drinkable water from salty (or otherwise contaminated) water. The salty water is put on one side of the membrane and pressure is applied to stop, and then reverse, the osmotic process. It generally takes a lot of pressure and is fairly slow, but it works.

This is how our systems will remove hardness, bacteria and other naturally occurring contaminants out of your drinking water.  Please click the Products link to see our home and office products.
