Bio

The great thing about music is that if you get enough guys together, learn three cords, and are able to keep a beat, you can start a band. These days, in the 90's, about everyone has done just that. Divan can be a bit different, except for one thing: Words and Music.

In 1992, Greg De Jong, Kirk Lane, Jason Schelling and Steve Veen decided to get together and try to make their mark on the music world. They began establishing their sound out of a makeshift studio in the milk house of an old abandoned dairy farm. Divan never shunned any style of music, but instead used them all to create their own. Each member instilled their own influences, ranging from Grateful Dead-like melodies to blues based rhythms tied together with impromtu drum beats. Through this, Divan was able to find their niche with an accoustic based 70's rock, loaded with harmonies, fixed on both the words and the music.

The wide spectrum of influences have enabled Divan to hold their own with many different styles of bands. Priding themselves on their live sound on stage, Divan has been able to share the stage with a variety of acts including: Saw Doctors, Steve Earl, A.J. Croche, Young Dubliners, Wild Colonials and Corey Stevens. Even when booked with an all Punk or Hard Rock bill, Divan can still walk away a crowd favorite.

Divan has spent the last seven years developing something special to their hearts. A sound that is pleasing to all, lyrics that can relate to all, and a positive and uplifting demeanor that is sorely missed today. The title of the debut CD sums it up well - "Still Above Water". This all comes naturally. It is what four completely different guys have in common, bonded by one motto: "Words and Music" and they like it that way.

Venues The Galaxy Theatre, The Coach House, The Whisky, The Roxy, Edison Field, Club 369, and Club Caprice.
