The Watch, vol. 2

Members of the Watch

Except where noted, these characters appeared in all 16 issues of The Watch, vol. 2

The American Dream [DECEASED]

Derek Gage, a mutant who could fly and fire red, white, and blue energy and force bolts, took on the name of Seapoint's first costumed crimefighter and was the founder and leader of the watch. He was murdered in the last issue of The Watch (volume 1). His only appearances in volume 2 were flashbacks in issues 1, 7, 11, and 13.

Gage's murderer was finally unmasked in issue #13.

Candle

Candle has superhuman reflexes, razor-sharp claws, and the ability to create darkness. In volume 1, Candle had blonde hair and called herself Anne O'Neil. She filled the "wise-cracking acrobatic hero" archetype. By the beginning of volume 2, she'd stop dying her hair (or maybe she'd started dying it brown) and used the name Emma McAllister. She was also a lot grimmer and more sarcastic. After issue 5, she began transforming into a half-human/half-cat form in times of extreme stress.

The secret of Candle's origin and identity was revealed in issue #16.

Candle is Brandyce's PC.

Coyote

John Trudell, CEO of Trudell Industries, became the Watch's corporate sponsor in issue #14. He also joined the Watch as the armored superhero Coyote, who could scan, duplicate, and negate superpowers.

Coyote is Bob's second PC.

Gateway

Kyle Brennon has the ability to sense and manipulate "chi" energy, allowing him to raise or lower his own or someone else's physical, mental, or spiritual strength. He's also an expert martial artist and the leader of the team.

Gateway is Jeff's PC.

The Indestructible Girl

Karen Jeffers, a young metahuman originally from Kansas, became super-strong and super-tough after the Invader's gene-bomb went off. She moved to California and eventually joined the Watch as the team's "brick."

The Indestructible Girl was initially an NPC, then later became Lynda's PC.

Mr. In-Between

Ross Kaye was a former intelligence agent working for STAR Labs Kyoto under Vance Kazar. A lab accident gave him the power to control the rate at which he experiences time -- in short, superspeed. Because he's "out of synch" with time, he seems to flicker slightly, like a video monitor with the wrong refresh rate.

Mr. In-Between was "replaced" by the Split Second in issue #12.

Mr. In-Between is Matt's first PC.

One Step Beyond

An agent of the Lords of Chaos, One Step Beyond can create powerful illusions and can "summon" fictional characters from the collective unconscious. He first appeared and joined the group in issue 15.

One Step Beyond is Ian's second PC.

Tenlach

Anthropoligst Jeremy McClain was the earthly host for Tenlach, the champion of the six Celtic forge gods. He has a wide array of powers, including invisibility, shape shifting, and teleportation. His knowledge of magic allows him to create mystical artifacts, and to travel to Faerie.

Tenlach is Bob's first PC.

Tom Spector

Tom is a cynical young occultist who joined the Watch because they could help him defeat the Seven Doors cult. He quit the group in issue 14.

Tom is Ian's first PC.

The Split Second

See Mr. In-Between, above. While Mr. In-Between always wore street clothes, the Split Second wears a silver bodysuit. The Split Second first appeared in issue 4, and his real nature and relationship with Mr. In-Between was revealed in issue 12.

The Split Second is Matt's second PC.

Allies and Associates

Pete Marcus

Not really an ally, Pete Marcus is the Watch's contact in the Los Angeles office of the Department of Extranormal Operations, a federal agency dealing with metahuman affairs.

Lt. A. Mendoza

Mendoza is one of the most competent officers in the Seapoint PD, so they've given him the most difficult and thankless position: head of the Special Unit, which deals with metahuman crimes.

Rival Crimefighters and Vigilantes

The Angels

Merry Andrew

The Radar Angels
