Control disease in your pets' world

Pets develop skin conditions for many reasons.  Whether it is an injury such as a cut or a bite or an irritation from an allergy or too much scratching treating skin problems can be difficult.

Because most pets have fur or hair it is difficult getting ointments or creams onto the wound.  Applying creams or ointments to the wound or irritation often makes quite a mess unless you first shave the area.

Unless a bandage is applied, creams and ointments will also rub off on rugs and furniture when the animal rolls around to scratch itself.  I know both of my dogs "scrub" themselves on the rug after having any treatment.

Sometimes I think my whole house has become the dogs' napkin or towel.  Drying them or wiping their face does not seem to satisfy them.  Liquids sprayed on the problem area and worked into the fur or hair are more effective in treating the problem.

The very fact that there is hair or fur around the affected area presents its own issues.  Dirt or oils in the fur as well as critters such as fleas and ticks increase the probability that the problem area will become infected.

There are two types of mange, one that lives on the surface of the skin and one that burrows under the surface of the skin.  The mange that lives on the surface of the skin is easily treated by wetting the area with ionic silver and allowing it to dry.  Often only a few treatments like this are necessary to control the problem.

The mange that burrows under the surface of the skin can be treated by giving the animal ionic silver orally.  A recommended dose is one teaspoonful daily for each 20 pounds.  This can be added to the drinking water or mixed with a small amount of milk for a pleasant taste.  I routinely add ionic silver to my dog's drinking water as a preventative program.  I successfully treated my "rescue" dog's extreme gum disease by adding milk to the ionic silver water for each daily treatment .
