Health Insurance: A program in which an individual who is concerned about potential financial risks will pay premiums to an insurance company, who in return, will reimburse them if there is loss due to medical and/or hospital expenses. Hundreds of millions of people are covered by the health insurance they get from their employer or purchase on their own. In general, this goes a long way to providing financial protection for those who are covered. But, there are substantial gaps in protection which makes people vulnerable. A

Each of these protection gaps is designed to limit the financial loss by the insurance company and transfer the loss to the individual. that only deals with the financial aspect of being sick. Health insurance
provides NO protection for the pain and suffering you experience when you
get sick. At best, health insurance is only a half a loaf when it
